Unconditional Love

Many young people today, fresh out of university starting their life careers and life journeys with partners they may have met at their institutes of learning are putting off starting their families in order to pay down their educational debt load. In place of children many young couples are purchasing a pet and then after discovering their beloved friend is home alone all day decide to purchase a second to provide some form of companionship throughout the time they are absent. As such, look at many local community streets during the evening hours and you will note the ever increasing growing numbers of people walking multiple pets.

From these new industries, products and services have been created. Pet daycare centres, pet walking services, pet resorts, both do-it-yourself and professional grooming facilities, custom made pet furniture, pet parks, pet bakeries, pet restaurants, pet photographers and even services that will cater to in-home birthday parties or other special events for your beloved pet.

In my local community newspaper something entirely new has surfaced and that being both adoption notices and death notices with photos announcing either the arrival or departure of their special friend.

Well they truly are "man's best friend" and I think one of the reasons why is because our pets provide us with what I term as "unconditional love"". You see you and I can have one of the worst days or our lives either at the office or home and yet in spite of our personal temperament, our pets accept us for who and as we are, unconditionally without reservation. Because of this fact and the fact that we walk, run, bicycle, sleep with our pets, confide our inner most secrets we create a special bond of affection with them. They become an integral part of the family unit and when they die we find ourselves grieving in a similar manner to the loss of any other family member. Upon their death we experience the same emotions that we would experience if a human family member had died.

As such, we are finding more people asking us what can we do when our pet dies? They tell us that they don't want to just drop off their pet at some veteranian's veterinarian's office for a final means of disposition but would like something more if possible.

For us as funeral directors, we understand what the families are experiencing in terms of their loss but the idea of creating and providing some form of pet funeral is something new to us and our profession. For some people the very thought of a funeral home providing both pet funeral services and human funeral services raises some questions in their minds that they have never confronted before.

However a loss, whether human or pet, is still a loss and it is important to face and deal with that loss in order that we might be able to continue on with our lives in a productive manner. So the Ogden's funeral home is prepared to help you with your pet needs with regards to the death of your family pet. At present we are only able to provide you with information regarding where you may obtain the various types of desired services available in our Scarborough community. We do have printed literature to help you and your family deal with the loss of a pet and some products that may be of assistance to you with regards to the final disposition of your pet. We can direct you to a local service that will provide pet visitation and funeral services along with cremation or burial services depending upon your specific needs. In the province of Ontario reasonably close to Toronto there are several pet cemeteries with several thousand pets buried in them. We also know of a family owned and operated monument company that can create and provide for you a grave monument or flat marker to indicate the spot where your beloved family pet has been buried.

Sound a bit far fetched for some, well recently we had a elderly couple visit our facilities and enquire as to whether we could assist them with their desire to prearrange their pet's (cat) funeral. At present he was in good health but they were concerned that both they (in their 70's) and their cat (now 18 yrs) should have something in place for the inevitable. Could we help them? I was at first taken back but realized they were very serious and as such I took them into one of our offices and discussed the various options open to them with regards to their beloved pet.

So should you have a similar desire and need more information please don't hesitate to contact our office and speak with one of our directors as to what is available for your specific situation. The Ogden Funeral Home is meeting the needs of our community with funeral services and products at affordable cost.
