Keeping Up With The Times

At one of our recent staff meetings we discussed our desire as one funeral home in the midst of many in Metro Toronto to not just be followers but rather a leader. Now there are many ways for that to be accomplished from the culture we create internally with our staff, the various up-to-date products and services that we provide for the families we serve within the Scarborough community to the type of equipment used to meet the needs of the 21st century people that come into our establishment on a regular basis.

We continue to meet these challenges and yet still have quite a way to go before we actually reach all our goals. But we have a dream, a mission, a target set in front of us and with perseverance we will in time accomplish what we set out to do.

Some of the more recent accomplishments of which we are very proud are the ongoing advancement in the areas of technology. Traditionally, funeral services have been very slow to change with the times, in particular in the areas of new technology. However at Ogden's we have embraced the concept of change and over the past number of years have installed computers in all our arrangement offices to make meeting with our families more efficient, less time consuming and allow us to demonstrate various outside products and services available to families from other sources other than ourselves. Products and services that allow us to create with you a memorable funeral ceremony that has value, purpose and meaning; its personalized to reflect the life of the individual family member that has been lost through the recent death.

Other technology includes in room audio and video equipment that allows families to use their own laptops or bring in a pre-recorded DVD presentation about their family member's personal life. We have similar equipment in our chapel so we can include these special presentations as part of the funeral ceremony. As well we are just about at the stage where we will be able to record the funeral service for future viewing on our website or viewing by other family members in other parts of the world unable to attend in person. Or for those who may be not be able to attend because of physical ailments we hope to be able to eventually provide live coverage through the internet that can be viewed at their home, senior's residence or even a hospital room. Should their be restrictions placed upon us due to a health pandemic whereby large gatherings of people are prohibited, then attendance at funerals via the internet may be the next best thing to personally being there, instead offering your support in virtual manner.

We currently have a very unique service available in one of our entrances and that is an electronic directory board. This is a first in North America for funeral homes and we are proud to be associated with the Summation Group using this prototype to test and develop this innovative product. It is designed to show pictures of your family member on the board and then provide directions to the room where your family is located in the funeral home. As well it provides information about the visitation hours, date and time of the funeral service along with the place of final disposition (cemetery, mausoleum or crematorium). Eventually your friends will be able to print off directional maps to the place of ceremony if outside the funeral home and to the cemetery being used for final disposition. This board will also allow us to present to you our staff members, new products and services along with the many different funeral related products and services provided by other companies in the area. This board is very multipurpose and has a touch screen for ease of use. Coming soon will be the installation of several floor kiosks in various locations throughout the funeral home, again with touch screens, to provide family DVD presentations along with up-to-date information about new innovative products and services as they become available. All designed to keep you current about the many ways you can make your family member's visitation and funeral time special and memorable.

So Ogden's continues to work very hard at making their facilities a place where your family member's funeral will not be forgotten for years to come. A place that looks like a very classy hotel where you feel proud to invite your family and friends and yet has all the comfort and feel of your own home. We also think you are going to be pleasantly surprised that as we continue to offer more value we continue to keep all these offerings within your financial means and personal budget.
