VERNA ELOISE IFILL Of Toronto, Ontario, passed away suddenly at St. Michael's Hospital, on Friday, October 28, 2011. Verna, age 90, born in Georgetown, Guyana on March 22, 1921 was the wonderful mother of Greta, Michael, Sheila, Joycelyn (Charles) and Dick and the loving and devoted grandmother of 12 grandchildren (Gregory, Donna, Sandra, Mark, Michael, Melissa, Marcia, Abigail, Charles Jr., Keane, Deidre and the late Sharon Williams) and 20 great-grandchildren (too many to list). Verna was the aunt of many nieces and nephews and was a wonderful friend, sister and mother (known as Mom Ifill) to many of her fellow church members. Verna was predeceased by her parents and all eight of her siblings and was the longest surviving sibling. Verna migrated from Guyana in August 1978 to reside with her daughter Greta and grandchildren. She spent her working years as a caregiver in the home and as such, she became a granny to many. Verna was truly the matriarch and a woman of faith. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother and in return she is deeply loved by her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Verna imparted years of wisdom to her children and grandchildren and she will be deeply missed by her family. Verna is resting at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Agincourt, Ontario M1S 1T3. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Ogden Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise Church, followed by Funeral Services at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise, 872 Progress Ave., Scarborough, O ntario, 416-289-2716. Verna's Interment will be held in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. In lieu of flowers and in Memory of Verna, donations to St. Michael's Hospital, 30 Bond Street, Toronto, Ontario M5B 1W8, in care of Joycelyn Glasgow Fund - Account No. 82715059-0 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
